A look into today’s professional lifestyle can be demanding. Many professionals begin the work day early in the morning, some at five am or earlier. The lifestyle can be demanding given that their free time is almost non existent. It is rare that the professional has more than an hour to exercise. Most try to get in some exercise before heading off to work. After their daily rituals, the professionals’ first thought usually revolves around emails and the daily news.
The use of technology has enabled many executives to become more efficient. For example, smart phones, personal digital assistants, and now the likes of the Kindle reader are allowing executives to remain on top of communications and events even when traveling or commuting. These devices have supplanted the morning news paper and further enable the multi-tasker.
Then its off to work. Dressing for success takes on a entirely new meaning depending on day of the week. The big meeting Mondays generally require a suit and tie. Most other days can be tolerated with a casual yet professional wardrobe. This can entail a simple dress shirt and pant outfit with maybe a sports jacket. The weather also plays a role in deciding the accessories. Depending on the career stage, many wear cuff links with a men’s sport watch.
As the day in the life of a professional can be stressful, many seek different outlets. Some play hard and work hard. For relaxing, the professional often times look forward to some recreational activity or hobby. This can be anything from golfing, bowling, to watching a game on television or going to a spa. The selection of activities varies depending on the person and time. The best alternative is the ever relaxing nap.
For those that play hard, there are many options. The up and coming professional is often a fixture at the trendy restaurants and night clubs. The more older professional tends to be more cerebral and engage in activities that are less active and perhaps more family related. Not all executives can be stereotyped. Many lead as boring a life as the next individual. Working long hours only allows for so much time for themselves.
More often than not, the professional is more health conscious. As a result, the explosion in healthy alternative foods, activities, and business has been significant. Many have turned to cooking for themselves. Here the home cooking equipment industry has seen it comeuppance. For example, a staple product in many kitchens is the cuisinart food processor. This has many uses and in some cases is just as important as the knife, cutting board, peeler, and juicer.
In conclusion, the life of a professional is not that much dissimilar to other lifestyles. The choice remains with the individual. Although as a society we pigeon hole certain groups of people, it is to satiate our need for clarity and understanding. The only difference might be the environment and time availability. We are only a reflection of our society and vice a versa, no matter how much the social critics of the day try to sway our opinion.
